PHNOM PENH, May 26, 2026 — Switzerland will continue supporting Cambodia’s socio-economic development, including the health sector and Kantha Bopha hospitals, outgoing Swiss Ambassador Pedro Zwahlen said during a farewell meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.

The meeting took place at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh as the Swiss envoy concluded his diplomatic mission in Cambodia.

According to Cambodian officials, Ambassador Zwahlen praised Cambodia’s rapid development and expressed pride in having served in the country, highlighting his experience learning about Cambodia’s history, culture and civilisation.

The ambassador also commended the progress of bilateral relations and reaffirmed Switzerland’s continued support for Cambodia’s socio-economic development, particularly assistance to the Kantha Bopha hospital network, one of the country’s key pediatric healthcare institutions.

Prime Minister Hun Manet thanked the Swiss government and people for their longstanding support, especially in healthcare, stressing that strengthening the health sector and improving public welfare remain major priorities for the Cambodian government.

Hun Manet also praised the ambassador’s role in strengthening bilateral ties during his tenure and said Cambodia and Switzerland still had significant potential to expand cooperation in areas including trade, investment, economic development and vocational training.

During the talks, the Cambodian premier also briefed the Swiss ambassador on recent developments surrounding the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, reiterating Cambodia’s commitment to resolving disputes peacefully through international law and existing bilateral agreements.

According to the statement, the Swiss ambassador expressed support for continued implementation of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand and backed peaceful resolution efforts based on international law and the rules-based international order.
