Tourist Numbers Top 21 Million During Khmer New Year
PHNOM PENH, April 18, 2026 — More than 21 million domestic and international tourist trips were recorded across Cambodia during the three-day Khmer New Year holiday, the Ministry of Tourism said.
The figures reflect a surge in nationwide travel, with people visiting destinations across all provinces and the capital during one of the country’s most important annual festivals.
Officials said the high volume was driven largely by domestic tourism, as millions of Cambodians travelled to celebrate the traditional holiday with family gatherings, cultural events and leisure activities.
The ministry did not immediately provide a breakdown between local and foreign visitors but noted that key tourism hubs and provincial destinations saw significant increases in activity.
The Khmer New Year is a peak travel period in Cambodia, typically boosting local economies through increased spending on transport, accommodation and entertainment.
The latest figures highlight the continued recovery and resilience of Cambodia’s tourism sector, supported by strong domestic demand and festive celebrations nationwide.
