Wang Wenbin: China and Cambodia Are ‘True Friends’ and Trusted Partners
PHNOM PENH, 21 September 2026 — Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin has reaffirmed Beijing’s strong ties with Cambodia, describing the two countries as “true friends” and “good partners” with deep mutual trust.
In a message posted on his social media account, Wang said China and Cambodia “share weal and woe” and that their “ironclad friendship” has grown stronger over time.
“China and Cambodia are true friends sharing weal and woe and good partners with mutual trust,” Wang wrote.
He added that China firmly supports Cambodia in pursuing a development path of its own choosing and would remain a trusted partner throughout Cambodia’s development.
“China firmly supports Cambodia in pursuing a development path that it chooses independently, and remains the most trusted partner during Cambodia’s development.”
Wang’s remarks underscore Beijing’s continued emphasis on its close political and development partnership with Phnom Penh.
The Chinese ambassador has repeatedly highlighted the “ironclad friendship” between the two countries in public engagements this year. In April, he described China-Cambodia cooperation as extending beyond government-level relations to people-to-people ties, while reaffirming China’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities for Cambodian youth.
China has also provided Cambodia with assistance in areas including humanitarian relief, mine action and law-enforcement cooperation. In April, Wang said China’s support for displaced Cambodian families demonstrated Beijing’s commitment to standing with Cambodia “through thick and thin.”
In the security sphere, China and Cambodia have strengthened cooperation against online scams and other forms of transnational crime, with Beijing providing technical equipment to Cambodian authorities and expressing readiness to support joint investigations.
The latest statement comes amid continued efforts by both countries to deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership and expand cooperation across economic, security, cultural and people-to-people areas.
Wang’s remarks reinforce Beijing’s stated position that Cambodia is an important and trusted partner, while highlighting China’s support for Cambodia’s right to pursue its own development path.
