Chinese Woman Goes Missing After Travelling Alone to Thailand to Meet Man She Met Online
BANGKOK, November 4, 2026 — A 27-year-old Chinese woman has gone missing after travelling from Guangzhou to Thailand to meet a man she had reportedly befriended online, with an alleged promise of an iPhone 18 gift raising further concerns among her family and friends.
The woman, identified only by her surname Fu, departed Guangzhou for Bangkok on October 23 before travelling onward to Chiang Mai in northern Thailand.
However, shortly after arriving in Chiang Mai, she reportedly lost contact with her family and friends. Repeated attempts to reach her by telephone and messaging applications were unsuccessful, prompting her relatives to report her disappearance and seek assistance from authorities.
Online acquaintance allegedly promised her an iPhone 18
According to Chinese media reports, Fu travelled to Thailand specifically to meet a male acquaintance she had met online.
A male friend of hers, surnamed Zhou, said the man had allegedly promised to give Fu an iPhone 18 as a present.
Fu was reportedly excited about the planned meeting and had prepared a handmade gift for the man before travelling.
However, Zhou said that he and Fu’s family had previously warned her against travelling overseas alone to meet someone she knew only through the internet.
Despite their concerns and efforts to discourage the trip, Fu decided to proceed.
Her disappearance has since left her loved ones increasingly worried, particularly because they have been unable to establish contact with her since her arrival in Chiang Mai.
Family plans to travel to Thailand
Chinese police have reportedly become involved in the case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding Fu’s disappearance.
Her family is preparing to travel to Thailand to seek assistance from local law enforcement agencies, hoping that cooperation between Chinese and Thai authorities will help locate her.
Previous robbery involving another Chinese woman
Fu’s disappearance comes amid reports of another incident involving a Chinese woman who travelled to Thailand to meet an online acquaintance.
In September 2026, a 24-year-old Chinese woman reportedly arrived in Thailand and entered a vehicle arranged by the man she was supposed to meet.
She was allegedly robbed of her mobile phone and personal belongings shortly after getting into the vehicle.
The woman managed to escape by jumping out of the vehicle and subsequently received assistance from members of the public.
Thai police later arrested two local men suspected of involvement in the robbery and continued investigating whether other individuals were involved.
As efforts to locate Fu continue, her family and friends remain deeply concerned about her safety.
There is currently no confirmed information establishing what happened to her after she arrived in Chiang Mai, and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain under investigation.
