BREAKING: Cambodia Condemns Thai Military Attacks, Urges Immediate Halt to Border Hostilities BREAKING: Cambodia Condemns Thai Military Attacks, Urges Immediate Halt to Border Hostilities

Phnom Penh — 8 December 2025 — The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia has issued an urgent statement condemning a series of armed provocations by Thai military forces along the Cambodia–Thailand border in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to Her Excellency Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, at approximately 05:04 AM on 8 December 2025, Thai military forces launched an attack on Cambodian positions in the An Ses area of Preah Vihear Province, followed by repeated tank fire toward Tamoan Thom Temple, the 5 Makara area, the vicinity of Preah Vihear Temple, and Chomka Chek.

The Ministry stated that these acts followed days of deliberate military provocations, including the incident of 7 December 2025 at Prorlean Thmar, aimed at instigating confrontation and destabilizing the border area.

Despite these assaults, Cambodian forces exercised maximum restraint and did not retaliate, in strict adherence to the spirit of the Ceasefire Agreement and international law. Cambodia has formally notified the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) for the second time and will request an independent investigation to ensure transparency, accountability, and impartiality.

The Ministry condemned in the strongest possible terms what it described as inhumane and brutal actions by the Thai side, calling them a serious violation of the Joint Declaration signed on 26 October 2025, witnessed by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in his capacity as ASEAN Rotating Chair.

Cambodia called upon the international community to strongly condemn Thailand’s repeated violations and demanded that Thailand assume full responsibility for these actions and immediately cease all hostile military activities that threaten regional peace and stability.

The Ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to the Ceasefire Agreement, the Joint Declaration, and all bilateral and international obligations, stressing that Cambodia remains firmly dedicated to peaceful, lawful, and diplomatic resolution of disputes in accordance with international law.
