Washington, D.C., 22 December 2025 — U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly stated that Thailand was the party that initiated renewed border hostilities against Cambodia, delivering a direct and unusually explicit assessment of the ongoing Cambodia–Thailand tensions.

President Trump made the remarks on 22 December 2025 during an official ceremony announcing the production of a new class of large-scale warships, attended by the U.S. Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of the Navy.

Responding to questions from journalists, President Trump stated that Thailand had once again taken steps toward war with Cambodia. He disclosed that he had conveyed his concerns to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, instructing him to pursue efforts to bring the conflict to an end.

According to President Trump, Secretary Rubio noted that he had already helped resolve eight conflicts, and that the Thailand–Cambodia situation now stands prominently among unresolved regional disputes.

President Trump further emphasized that hostility and deep resentment have escalated sharply between the populations of the two countries, underscoring the seriousness and urgency of the situation.

The statement marks a significant diplomatic signal from Washington, as it clearly attributes responsibility for the renewed tensions and calls attention to the deteriorating atmosphere between the two neighboring nations.
