Nearly 460,000 Displaced Cambodians Return Home as Stability Gradually Restored
Phnom Penh, 7 January 2026 — The Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia announced today that an additional 16,756 displaced persons have safely returned to their homes, reflecting continued progress toward normalization and stability in affected areas.
According to the Ministry, approximately 460,000 people have now returned home out of a total of more than 640,000 individuals displaced by recent developments. As of today, 186,760 displaced persons remain in displacement camps, where authorities continue to provide protection, assistance, and essential services.
The Royal Government of Cambodia reiterates its firm commitment to ensuring the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of all displaced citizens, while continuing to prioritize humanitarian assistance, security, and the restoration of normal livelihoods.
The Ministry of Interior underscored that ongoing efforts remain focused on safeguarding civilians, accelerating resettlement, and coordinating closely with relevant institutions to achieve a full and sustainable return to normalcy.
