BREAKING: Multiple Bombings Strike Southern Thailand, Underscoring Ongoing Safety Risks BREAKING: Multiple Bombings Strike Southern Thailand, Underscoring Ongoing Safety Risks

Bangkok, 11 January 2026 — A series of coordinated bomb and arson attacks struck fuel facilities across Thailand’s southern border provinces early Sunday, targeting at least 11 locations in Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala, according to Thai authorities, in an incident that has raised renewed concerns over public safety in the region.

The attacks began shortly after 1:00 a.m., with multiple explosions reported almost simultaneously. Narathiwat province was the most severely affected, with six petrol stations damaged. The coordinated nature of the incidents suggested careful planning and execution.

Security officials said the assailants operated in groups, were armed with long firearms, and planted explosive devices before setting fires at fuel pumps, convenience stores and, in one case, a fuel tanker. In Ra-ngae district, Narathiwat, a police officer was injured by shrapnel while responding to an explosion at a PTT petrol station and was transported to hospital. No civilian casualties were reported.

According to the report from Khaosod English, locations affected are:

Yala Province (4 locations):

  • A gas station in Kabang District
  • A gas station in Bannang Sata District
  • Bukekalae Gas Station, along the Yala–Raman Road, Budi Subdistrict, Mueang District
  • A gas station on Highway 418 (Pattani–Yala), inbound to Yala city, Tha Sap Subdistrict, Mueang Yala District

Narathiwat Province (5 locations):

  • A gas station in Village No. 4, Ban Khok, Chuap Subdistrict, Cho-airong District
  • A gas station in Dusongyo Subdistrict, Chanae District
  • A gas station in Ra-ngae District
  • A gas station in Waeng District
  • A gas station in Su-ngai Kolok District

Pattani Province (2 locations):

  • A gas station in Mueang District
  • A gas station in Kapho District

Additional explosions were reported at two petrol stations in Pattani and three in Yala, bringing the total number of targeted sites to 11. Emergency response teams cordoned off the affected areas and launched forensic examinations, while security forces were placed on heightened alert across the southern provinces.

Authorities have opened an investigation into the attacks. No group has claimed responsibility, and the perpetrators remain unidentified.

The incidents underscore persistent security challenges in Thailand’s southern border regions, despite ongoing efforts to stabilize the area.
