Cambodia, Vietnam Leaders Signal Continuity in Relations After To Lam Re-election

PHNOM PENH, Jan 23, 2026 — Cambodian Senate President and ruling party chief Samdech Techo Hun Sen has sent a congratulatory message to Tô Lâm following his re-election as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

In a letter dated Friday, Hun Sen welcomed To Lam’s renewed mandate from the party’s 14th National Congress, describing the decision as a reflection of the Vietnamese party and people’s confidence in his leadership and vision for national development, stability and prosperity.

Hun Sen said he was confident that under To Lam’s leadership, Vietnam would continue to strengthen its regional and international standing, while advancing peace, long-term stability and economic growth for its people.

The Cambodian leader also expressed his belief that bilateral ties would deepen further, reaffirming the two countries’ shared commitment to “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term stability.”

Hun Sen concluded by wishing To Lam good health and continued success in his duties, for the well-being and enduring prosperity of the Vietnamese people.
