PARIS, Jan 25, 2026 — France has expressed its readiness to provide historical documents and maps to support a legal resolution of the border issue between Cambodia and Thailand, Cambodia’s ambassador to France said on Sunday.

Speaking on Jan 25, Luy David, Cambodia’s ambassador to France, said the French side had indicated its willingness to make available relevant archival materials that could assist efforts to resolve the long-standing border dispute through legal and peaceful means.

The ambassador said the documents and maps could contribute to clarifying historical boundaries and support proceedings conducted in accordance with international law.

Cambodia has repeatedly said it favours resolving border issues through legal mechanisms and dialogue, including reference to historical records and international judicial processes, rather than through confrontation.

France, the former colonial administrator of Cambodia, holds extensive archives dating back to the early 20th century, including official maps that have previously played a role in international legal cases related to the Cambodian-Thai border.
