PHNOM PENH, Feb 6, 2026 — Senior party leaders from Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos agreed on Friday that border security and peace are essential pillars for regional stability, following a high-level trilateral meeting in Phnom Penh.

The talks, held at the Vimean 7 Makara, were chaired by Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party, and attended by To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.

The three leaders praised ongoing efforts to maintain good border relations and reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying cooperation against transnational crime to ensure safe, peaceful and stable borders among the three countries.

Beyond party-to-party cooperation, the leaders agreed to further strengthen trilateral and bilateral ties—between Cambodia and Vietnam, and Cambodia and Laos—within the framework of traditional friendship and neighbourly relations along shared borders.

Hun Sen welcomed the participation of the Vietnamese and Lao party chiefs, describing the summit as an important opportunity to expand cooperation not only at the party level but also between the governments of the three countries, with the aim of deepening long-standing ties among neighbouring nations.

The leaders agreed to step up cooperation across political and diplomatic affairs, defence, security, economic development and trade. They also pledged to expand high-level exchanges and promote more frequent interactions among future leaders, including youth and next-generation party cadres.

The meeting further emphasised the importance of joint efforts in training young party members to ensure continuity, stronger cooperation and lasting stability in the region.
