BREAKING: Series of Minor Earthquakes Recorded in Thai Tourist Region BREAKING: Series of Minor Earthquakes Recorded in Thai Tourist Region

Surat Thani, Feb. 12, 2026 — A 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck southern Thailand early Thursday as part of a cluster of nine tremors recorded over two days, officials said, with no immediate reports of damage or injuries in the popular tourist region.

Thailand’s Department of Mineral Resources said the strongest quake hit Ban Ta Khun district at 2:07 a.m. local time at a shallow depth of 2 km. The tremors, ranging from magnitude 1.9 to 3.2, were linked to movement along the Khlong Marui fault zone, a left-lateral strike-slip fault running northeast to southwest.

Authorities said the earthquakes posed no immediate threat and urged the public not to panic, adding that monitoring was continuing.

Surat Thani province serves as a gateway to major tourist destinations including Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Khao Sok National Park. Local officials said infrastructure and transport services remained unaffected.

Thailand is not considered a high-risk earthquake zone compared to neighbouring Myanmar and Indonesia, but it has experienced occasional tremors. In 2014, a 6.3-magnitude quake struck Chiang Rai in northern Thailand, damaging buildings and injuring dozens. In 2023 and 2024, smaller tremors linked to regional fault lines were also recorded in northern and western provinces.
