PHNOM PENH, March 16, 2026 — China has praised Cambodia’s crackdown on online scam networks and pledged closer cooperation in law enforcement to eliminate cyber fraud operations, the Chinese ambassador to Cambodia said on Monday.

In a statement posted on social media, Chinese Ambassador Wang Wenbin commended what he described as “strong measures and positive results” by Cambodian authorities in combating online scam activities.

The ambassador also highlighted the recent donation of police equipment from China’s Ministry of Public Security to Cambodia, calling it a concrete step toward strengthening bilateral law enforcement cooperation.

He said the assistance forms part of the implementation of outcomes from Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Cambodia, which emphasized deeper collaboration on security and crime prevention.

“China is ready to work together with Cambodia to eradicate the scourge of online scam and ensure there is no place for this crime to hide in Cambodia,” the ambassador said.

Online fraud operations in parts of Southeast Asia have drawn increasing international attention in recent years, with governments in the region stepping up enforcement against criminal networks involved in cyber scams, human trafficking and illegal online gambling.

Cambodia has launched nationwide operations targeting online scam centers, with authorities pledging to strengthen enforcement and improve cooperation with international partners to combat cross-border cybercrime.

Officials say closer cooperation between Cambodia and China is aimed at protecting citizens of both countries and creating a safer environment for economic and technological cooperation.
