PHNOM PENH, March 24, 2026 — Cambodia has rejected Thai media reports alleging it is preparing for a new armed conflict, calling the claims “incorrect and baseless” and reaffirming its commitment to peace along the border.

In a statement, Defence Ministry spokeswoman Maly Socheata said the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces remain fully committed to existing agreements with Thailand, including the Joint Statement of the third General Border Committee (GBC) meeting in December 2025 and the Joint Declaration on Peace signed in October 2025.

The statement was issued in response to Thai media reports citing intelligence sources that accused Cambodia of preparing for a third armed confrontation.

Cambodia’s military “strictly adheres” to the government’s policy of maintaining peace, stability and security along the border, the spokeswoman said.

Phnom Penh reiterated that it supports resolving border issues through peaceful means, based on international law and existing bilateral agreements.

The statement comes amid heightened tensions between Cambodia and Thailand following incidents along disputed border areas in recent months.

Officials said Cambodia remains committed to dialogue and cooperation to prevent escalation and ensure stability in the region.
