PHNOM PENH, April 4, 2026 — Cambodia’s Phnom Kulen National Park has been named one of the “Seven Wonders” of ASEAN, the Tourism Ministry said on Friday, citing a feature by Condé Nast Traveler.

The recognition highlights Phnom Kulen’s significance as a major cultural, historical and natural tourism destination, located about 53 km northeast of Siem Reap.

Established as a national park in 1993 and later expanded, Phnom Kulen now spans more than 62,000 hectares across multiple districts in Siem Reap province. The area encompasses mountain ranges, dense forests and a network of important archaeological sites.

Often regarded as a sacred mountain, Phnom Kulen holds deep historical and spiritual importance in Cambodia. The site contains more than 150 ancient locations, including temples, carvings and religious landmarks linked to the early Khmer Empire.

The park also serves as a vital water source for Siem Reap province, supporting agriculture, daily consumption and helping maintain the structural stability of nearby ancient temples.

Cambodia’s Tourism Ministry said the recognition would help raise the country’s international profile and further promote sustainable tourism, while reinforcing the importance of conserving cultural heritage and natural resources.

Authorities have been working to position Cambodia as a key destination in Southeast Asia, leveraging its historical sites and natural landscapes to attract more international visitors.
