Storms Disrupt Thousands of Flights Across Asia
BEIJING, April 6, 2026 — Severe weather conditions have disrupted air travel across Asia, with thousands of flights delayed and hundreds cancelled at major regional hubs, aviation data showed on Sunday.
Thunderstorms, fog and low visibility have affected operations across at least 23 airports in China, Japan, South Korea, India and Singapore, with a total of 3,674 delays and 351 cancellations recorded, according to travel data cited by industry reports.
The situation was most severe in southern China, where storms and poor visibility slowed airport operations significantly.
Among the hardest hit was Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, which reported 52 cancellations and 593 delays, followed by Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport, each recording hundreds of disruptions. Airports in Beijing also reported more than 100 delays each.
Outside China, disruptions spread across key regional hubs. Tokyo Haneda Airport recorded more than 500 delays, while Incheon International Airport and Indira Gandhi International Airport also reported significant delays.
Singapore Changi Airport remained relatively stable, though it still recorded over 150 delays without cancellations.
Airspace congestion and environmental restrictions further compounded the disruptions, causing knock-on delays across the region.
Several major carriers, including China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways and Korean Air, were among those affected.
Airlines and airports have advised passengers to check flight status updates as weather conditions continue to impact schedules across Asia.
