King Norodom Sihamoni Under Recovery After Successful Surgery

PHNOM PENH, April 20, 2026 — Cambodia’s Royal Palace said on Monday that King Norodom Sihamoni had successfully undergone surgery in Beijing and is now recovering under close medical supervision.

In an official statement, the Ministry of the Royal Palace said the operation was carried out by specialist doctors in the Chinese capital and had been completed successfully.

The palace added that the monarch had regained consciousness and was being carefully monitored by medical staff as part of his post-surgery recovery.

The statement also expressed gratitude to monks, citizens and supporters who had sent prayers and messages wishing the king a speedy recovery.

The update is likely to bring reassurance across Cambodia, where the monarch is widely respected as a symbol of national unity and constitutional continuity.

King Norodom Sihamoni has reigned since 2004 and regularly receives medical treatment in Beijing, where Cambodia maintains close diplomatic ties with China.

No timetable was immediately given for his return to Cambodia, with the palace saying further updates would be announced later.
