PHNOM PENH, April 22, 2026 — Cambodia’s imports from Singapore surged more than 200% in the first quarter of 2026, official data showed, as businesses redirected supply chains following prolonged border tensions with Thailand.

Figures released by Cambodia’s General Department of Customs and Excise showed imports from Singapore reached US$537 million between January and March, up 205.9% from the same period a year earlier.

Cambodian exports to Singapore rose 24.2% to more than US$18 million, bringing total bilateral trade to US$555 million, an increase of 191.8% year-on-year.

Business leaders said the sharp rise was driven largely by increased imports of fuel and other essential goods after disruptions in land trade with Thailand.

Singapore is one of Asia’s leading logistics and transshipment hubs, handling goods originating from China, Europe, the United States and other markets before redistribution across Southeast Asia.

Major imports from Singapore include fuel, liquefied gas, machinery, electrical equipment, spare parts, construction materials and raw materials for Cambodia’s garment sector.

Thailand has traditionally been one of Cambodia’s largest suppliers, but trade volumes have weakened sharply since the border dispute escalated in 2025.

Economists said the shift illustrates Cambodia’s growing ability to adapt supply chains through maritime trade routes and alternative regional partners.
