PHNOM PENH, April 27, 2026 — Cambodia’s Royal Palace said on Monday that King Norodom Sihamoni’s health had improved following major surgery and a week of treatment at a hospital in Beijing.

In a statement, the Ministry of the Royal Palace said the monarch’s condition was “slightly better than before” after receiving treatment from specialist doctors at a state hospital in the Chinese capital.

The palace said the King had undergone a major operation and was receiving close care from experienced physicians and nursing staff. Doctors were also continuing intravenous treatment, scans and pain management, as well as medication for post-surgical recovery.

Medical staff in Beijing advised the King to remain in hospital for further observation and continued care, the statement said.

King Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath also expressed gratitude to Cambodia’s senior Buddhist clergy, national leaders, officials and citizens who had offered prayers and well wishes for his recovery.

The palace did not specify the nature of the King’s illness or the surgery.

China has long provided medical treatment for members of Cambodia’s royal family and senior leaders under close bilateral ties between Phnom Penh and Beijing.
