Grenade Found in Malmö After Thai King, Queen Depart Sweden
STOCKHOLM, May 3, 2026 — Swedish police safely neutralised a hand grenade discovered on a busy street in the southern city of Malmö on Saturday, shortly after Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida concluded an official visit to the country.
Authorities said the device was found in central Malmö earlier in the day, prompting a swift response from bomb disposal units, who secured the area and carried out a controlled explosion on-site.
Police have not released further details about the origin of the grenade or whether the incident was linked to any broader security threat. No injuries were reported.
The incident occurred after the Thai monarch and queen departed Sweden following a visit to attend celebrations marking the 80th birthday of King Carl XVI Gustaf in Stockholm.
Swedish authorities said investigations are ongoing as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
The case has renewed attention on public safety concerns in urban areas, though officials emphasised that the situation was contained quickly and posed no ongoing threat to the public.
