KAMPONG SPEU, May 6, 2026 — Cambodian and Indian ground forces officially launched their second bilateral military exercise on Wednesday, focusing on counterterrorism operations and disaster relief cooperation as both countries deepen defence ties.

The joint exercise, named CINBAX-II, opened at the Techo Sen Phnom Thma Moa Reus military base in Kampong Speu province under the theme: “Joint Counterterrorism and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Operations.

The opening ceremony was attended by Cambodian Army Deputy Commander Lt. Gen. Oeun Saroeun and India’s military attaché to Cambodia.

The drills will run for 15 days from May 3 to May 18 and involve both command-post exercises and field training aimed at strengthening joint operational capabilities between the two armies.

According to Cambodian military officials, the exercise is designed to improve coordination in responding to terrorism threats and natural disasters, while also supporting readiness for United Nations peacekeeping operations.

The Cambodian side has deployed around 160 personnel, while India has contributed 120 troops to the exercise.

Officials said the training reflects evolving security challenges faced by peacekeeping forces in modern operations, particularly in areas involving terrorism and humanitarian emergencies.

India described the exercise as a sign of growing defence cooperation and strategic partnership between the two countries.

The first edition of the Cambodia-India bilateral exercise was held in India in 2024.

The latest drills come as Cambodia continues expanding military cooperation with regional and international partners through joint exercises, training exchanges and defence diplomacy initiatives.
