BANGKOK, May 10, 2026 — Chinese Embassy in Thailand said on Sunday that a Chinese national under investigation in Thailand over a cache of military-grade weapons and explosives would not be shielded from Thai law, as authorities continue expanding a high-profile arms probe near Pattaya.

In a statement responding to media questions, the embassy said Chinese authorities were urgently verifying information related to the suspect and stressed that Beijing does not protect citizens who commit crimes overseas.

“The Chinese government has consistently urged Chinese citizens residing abroad to strictly abide by the laws and regulations of their host countries,” the embassy spokesperson said.

“China does not protect any Chinese nationals who violate local laws or commit criminal offences overseas and is ready to support the relevant countries in handling such cases appropriately in accordance with the law,” the statement added.

Thai police are investigating Mingchen Sun, a 31-year-old Chinese national arrested after a vehicle crash in Chon Buri province led officers to discover firearms, explosives and military-style equipment at a rented property in the Huai Yai area near Pattaya.

Authorities later seized assault rifles, grenade-type devices, ammunition and C4 explosive materials during raids connected to the case, prompting a broader investigation into a suspected arms trafficking network involving Thai nationals and military-linked suspects.

The Chinese embassy also said Beijing was prepared to strengthen cooperation with Thailand in combating transnational crime.

“The Chinese side is willing to continue strengthening law enforcement and police cooperation with the Thai side to jointly prevent and combat cross-border crimes,” the spokesperson said.

Thai investigators are continuing forensic analysis of the seized weapons and examining financial transactions and communications records linked to the suspects. Authorities have not yet announced whether additional arrests will be made.
