PHUKET, May 10, 2026 — One Indian tourist has died and three others were hospitalised after four members of a group suddenly collapsed at a cafe near Kamala Beach on Thailand’s Phuket island, police said on Saturday.

Officers at Kamala Police Station said emergency services were called to the incident at around 2:05 a.m. on May 9 after several men lost consciousness inside a cafe in Kamala, Kathu district.

Authorities identified the group as five Indian nationals: Kushagra Agarwal, Rahul Agrawal, another man with the same name, Agarwal Aman and Aryan Verma.

According to the cafe’s head security guard, the group arrived at the venue at about 11 p.m. on May 8.

Police said four members of the group began losing consciousness one after another at around 1:54 a.m. for reasons that remain unclear. Staff immediately contacted emergency responders, while Aryan Verma reportedly showed no symptoms.

Three unconscious men were transported to Patong Hospital and another to Thalang Hospital.

Doctors later transferred Kushagra Agarwal and Rahul Agrawal to Vachira Phuket Hospital after both fell into a coma. Authorities confirmed that Kushagra Agarwal died later that afternoon.

Police said the remaining patients were later reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the collapse and are continuing forensic examinations and witness interviews.

Thai authorities are coordinating with the Embassy of India in Thailand while forensic specialists conduct a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

The incident has drawn attention because four people collapsed within minutes of each other while another member of the group remained unaffected. Authorities said no official conclusions had yet been reached.
