PHNOM PENH, May 29, 2026 — Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior has strongly rejected reports published by two Ghana-based media outlets alleging that African nationals with expired immigration waivers had been ordered to leave the country by May 31, describing the claims as entirely fabricated.

In a statement issued on Friday, the ministry said the reports, published by Campagne Online and News Ghana, were accompanied by a falsified notice falsely attributed to Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration.

The ministry categorically denied issuing any such directive and accused the publications of deliberately distorting facts, misleading international public opinion and damaging Cambodia’s reputation.

“Cambodia has never adopted any policy ordering African nationals to leave the country as falsely alleged in the fabricated reports,” the statement said.

Authorities emphasized that Cambodia continues to welcome foreigners who comply with the country’s legal requirements, including investors, businesspeople, tourists and foreign workers, without discrimination.

The ministry also called on national and international media organizations to uphold professional standards and verify information before publication in order to prevent the spread of misinformation and misunderstandings regarding Cambodia.

The clarification follows the circulation of online reports claiming that Cambodia planned to expel African nationals with expired immigration waivers by the end of May, a claim the government says is entirely false.

Officials reiterated that Cambodia remains open to foreign visitors, investors and workers who comply with applicable immigration laws, while warning against the dissemination of fabricated documents and misleading information.
