BANGKOK, June 5, 2026 — Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is scheduled to have his electronic monitoring (EM) bracelet removed on June 8 as part of procedures related to the royal pardon granted earlier this year, according to his daughter, former Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

Speaking to reporters during celebrations marking the 26th anniversary of Thailand’s National Television, Paetongtarn said her father is expected to meet officials from the probation authorities on June 8 to complete documentation associated with the pardon process.

She added that the appointment will also include procedures for removing the electronic monitoring device that has been used to track Thaksin during his parole period.

Thaksin, who returned to Thailand after years in self-imposed exile, had been serving a reduced prison sentence following a royal pardon. Under the latest royal clemency decree issued in 2026, he qualified for a full pardon under provisions covering inmates with less than one year remaining on their sentences.

The royal pardon immediately ended Thaksin’s remaining sentence obligations. Prior to the decree, he was expected to remain under probation supervision for an additional four months, from May 11 until September 9, 2026, when he would have completed his parole period.

As part of those conditions, Thaksin had been required to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet and report monthly to probation authorities in Bangkok.

The June 8 appointment is expected to formally conclude those remaining administrative procedures, bringing an end to the monitoring measures that had remained in place following his release on parole.

Thaksin’s legal status changed significantly after the royal pardon took effect, effectively terminating both his remaining sentence and parole obligations ahead of the original completion date in September.
