PHNOM PENH, June 6, 2026 — Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence said an ASEAN observation mission visited a disputed border area in Pursat Province on Saturday to assess the situation on the ground and verify compliance with ceasefire measures agreed between Cambodia and Thailand.

According to a statement issued by the ministry’s spokeswoman, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) facilitated a visit by the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) at 11:12 a.m. to the O’Phlouk Damrei area in Thma Da Commune, Veal Veng District, Pursat Province.

The mission, led by the Head of Mission of the ASEAN Observer Team from the Philippines, was tasked with observing, verifying and reporting on conditions in the area, which Cambodia said had come under attack and remains under illegal occupation by Thai military forces.

The visit was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to review compliance with the Joint Statement agreed following the ceasefire between the two countries and to assess implementation of measures intended to maintain peace and stability along the border.

In its statement, Cambodia reiterated that it does not recognize any alteration of international boundaries through the use of force or through unilateral territorial claims. The Ministry of National Defence stressed that actions taken on the ground would not affect Cambodia’s legal position or its rights concerning its internationally recognized borders.

Cambodia also called on Thailand to implement the Joint Statement adopted during the Third Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) in a complete, sincere and effective manner. The ministry said full implementation of the agreement is essential for rebuilding mutual trust and ensuring lasting peace between the neighboring countries.

The statement further emphasized that Cambodia remains committed to resolving disputes through peaceful means, in accordance with international law and existing treaties and agreements between the two nations.

The ASEAN Observer Team was established to monitor implementation of ceasefire arrangements and confidence-building measures agreed by Cambodia and Thailand following border tensions. Cambodia has repeatedly expressed support for an expanded role for ASEAN observers as part of efforts to promote transparency, accountability and regional stability.

Thai authorities have not immediately commented on Cambodia’s latest statement.
