US, Cambodian Forces Prepare for First Angkor Sentinel Exercise Since 2016
PHNOM PENH, 27 June 2026 – Cambodian and United States military officials have begun planning for the return of the Angkor Sentinel joint military exercise in 2027, marking the first steps toward reviving the annual drills after a hiatus since 2016.
According to the US Embassy in Cambodia, military representatives from the US Army Pacific and the Idaho Army National Guard met with senior leaders of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) and the National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces, Mine and ERW Clearance (NPMEC) during the Angkor Sentinel 2027 Concept Development Conference.
Senior military officials from both countries held discussions in Phnom Penh and at the National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces’ training facility to begin planning for the exercise, which is expected to resume for the first time in more than a decade.
The embassy said the renewed cooperation reflects the shared commitment of Cambodia and the United States to strengthening bilateral military ties while promoting peace, regional stability and military preparedness across the Indo-Pacific.
Angkor Sentinel was previously held as a regular joint exercise between the two countries before it was suspended after the 2016 edition.
