Southern Thailand Bombing Leaves Two Malaysian Tourists Injured
THAILAND, 30 June 2026 — Two Malaysian tourists were injured after a bomb hidden inside a roadside culvert exploded in Tak Bai district, Narathiwat province, on Monday at about 11.40am, authorities said.
The explosion occurred near the Sapom three-way intersection on the inbound road to Tak Bai district in Ban Phrai Wan, Phrai Wan subdistrict. According to the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4 Forward Command, unidentified attackers planted the explosive device inside a road culvert before it detonated.
Emergency responders provided first aid at the scene before transporting the two injured Malaysian tourists to hospital. Authorities did not immediately disclose the extent of their injuries.
Security forces cordoned off the area, managed traffic, and deployed explosive ordnance disposal and forensic teams to examine the blast site and collect evidence.
Authorities said investigations are underway to identify those responsible for the bombing. The attack has affected public safety and is expected to undermine confidence in tourism and the local economy in the border province.
ISOC Region 4 Forward Command urged residents to report suspicious individuals or activities through its 1341 hotline or local security authorities as the investigation continues.
Khaosod reported that security forces remain on heightened alert across the area while investigations continue. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
