Macron’s Cambodia Visit to Boost Cooperation Across Key Sectors
PHNOM PENH, 15 July 2026 — French President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to Cambodia in November 2026 is expected to open a new chapter in bilateral relations and provide fresh momentum for expanding cooperation between the two countries, Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn said.
Speaking during France’s National Day celebrations on 14 July, Prak Sokhonn described the upcoming visit as a historic milestone that would elevate Cambodia-France relations towards a strategic partnership.
The visit will take place 60 years after General Charles de Gaulle’s visit to Cambodia and more than 30 years after the visit of former French President François Mitterrand.
Prak Sokhonn said the longstanding friendship between Cambodia and France is built on a rich shared history, mutual trust and a common commitment to building a stronger future together.
He noted that bilateral relations have continued to expand through high-level political dialogue and growing cooperation across a wide range of sectors.
According to the foreign minister, Cambodia and France currently cooperate in agriculture, trade, energy, infrastructure, healthcare, defence, education, culture and heritage conservation.
He added that France remains one of Cambodia’s leading development partners, providing sustained support for the Kingdom’s development efforts.
French Ambassador to Cambodia Olivier Richard also highlighted the commitment of President Macron and Prime Minister Hun Manet to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
He said both governments are working closely to ensure the state visit becomes a landmark event that consolidates existing cooperation while creating new opportunities for future collaboration.
Richard added that preparations cover a broad range of sectors, including the French language, higher education, scientific research, investment, development assistance, trade, defence, cultural heritage and contemporary arts, with institutions from both countries actively participating in the partnership.
