Cambodia Adds 845 Factories Despite Global Economic Uncertainty
PHNOM PENH, 6 August 2026 — Cambodia added 845 factories during the first six months of 2026, creating more than 90,000 new jobs and highlighting continued investor confidence despite ongoing global economic uncertainty, according to the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training.
Ministry spokesman Sun Mesa said the total number of factories nationwide increased from 46,649 to 47,494 during the January-June period.
He said the expansion generated more than 90,000 new employment opportunities, with the majority of jobs created in the industrial sector.
The textile, garment, footwear, travel goods and bags industry also continued to expand, with the number of factories increasing from 2,725 to 2,890 during the six-month period.
Sun Mesa said the growth reflects the continued confidence of both domestic and foreign investors in Cambodia and demonstrates the effectiveness of the government’s investment promotion policies.
“Despite continued uncertainty in the global economy, Cambodia has remained capable of attracting investment, increasing the number of factories and creating new jobs,” he said. “This growth reflects investors’ confidence in Cambodia’s peace, political stability, investment-friendly policies and skilled workforce.”
He added that the creation of more than 90,000 new jobs in the first half of the year demonstrates Cambodia’s continued ability to generate employment opportunities while strengthening the foundation for sustainable economic growth.
The ministry also encouraged job seekers and returning migrant workers to explore employment opportunities within Cambodia through government job fairs or by contacting the ministry’s employment hotline, 1297, which provides information on legal employment offering wages, labour protection and social security benefits.
