Cambodia Deports 635 Thai Nationals Linked to Online Scam
BANTEAY MEANCHEY, April 30, 2026 — Cambodian authorities have deported 635 Thai nationals suspected of involvement in illegal online operations and transnational crime, officials said on Thursday, following a major crackdown in the border city of Poipet.
The group was expelled via the Poipet International Border Checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province after authorities completed legal procedures, according to police.
A senior Cambodian police official said an additional 30 suspects remain under investigation and will face further legal action.
The deportations followed a raid on April 25, when a joint task force led by national police searched a condominium complex in Poipet suspected of hosting illegal online businesses, including gambling operations linked to cross-border criminal networks.
Authorities said they seized thousands of electronic devices, including more than 4,600 mobile phones and over 400 computer monitors, along with other equipment used in the operations.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the network operated multiple online gambling platforms targeting customers in Thailand.
Officials said the operation was conducted in coordination with Thai authorities as part of broader efforts to combat transnational cybercrime in the region.
Investigations are ongoing to identify additional suspects and dismantle remaining networks.
