PHNOM PENH, June 14, 2026 — Cambodia will begin a four-month visa-free pilot program for Chinese nationals on June 15, in a move aimed at further boosting tourism and strengthening people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Under the trial scheme, which will run until October 15, 2026, holders of People’s Republic of China (PRC) passports will be allowed to enter Cambodia without applying for a visa. Eligible travelers will be permitted to stay for up to 14 days and may enter and exit the country multiple times during the pilot period.

Cambodian authorities said all relevant agencies have completed preparations to welcome visitors under the new arrangement.

Speaking during an interview with more than 11 major Chinese media outlets operating in Cambodia and China, Tourism Minister Huot Hak said Chinese visitors would receive a warm welcome and experience Cambodia’s renowned hospitality from the moment they arrive.

“We are fully prepared to provide Chinese tourists with a warm and heartfelt hospitality experience,” the minister said.

The visa-free initiative comes as Chinese tourism continues to recover strongly. According to Cambodia’s tourism statistics, the Kingdom welcomed approximately 5.6 million international visitors in 2025, including more than 1.2 million Chinese tourists, representing an increase of about 42 percent compared to the previous year.

During the first five months of 2026, China ranked as the largest source of international visitors to Cambodia, highlighting the growing importance of the Chinese market to the country’s tourism sector.

Industry experts believe the visa exemption policy could further accelerate visitor arrivals from China, reduce travel barriers and encourage repeat visits to Cambodia’s cultural, historical and coastal destinations.

The pilot program is also expected to support the government’s broader efforts to revive tourism, stimulate local businesses and strengthen economic cooperation between Cambodia and China.

Officials said the visa-free arrangement will be closely monitored throughout the four-month trial period before any decisions are made regarding its future implementation.
