PATTAYA, April 19, 2026 — A Cambodian man was seriously injured after being stabbed during a group assault at the Na Kluea Wan Lai festival in Pattaya, Thai police said on Saturday, raising fresh concerns over security at crowded holiday celebrations.

The 35-year-old victim, identified only as Mr Nang, suffered a deep wound to his right waist and was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment after fleeing the scene to seek help from nearby residents.

Rescue officials said the incident was reported at about 3:45 p.m. local time, prompting a response from medical teams and officers from Bang Lamung police station.

According to the victim’s statement, he was attacked by a group of Myanmar nationals following an argument during water-play activities linked to the Songkran Wan Lai celebrations.

Police investigating the area near Amorn Market found signs of a violent confrontation, including broken bottles and blood stains along the roadside.

Witnesses said the groups had initially been celebrating together before tensions escalated rapidly into fighting. Some residents reported seeing around 10 Karen individuals chasing and assaulting a smaller group of Cambodians.

CCTV footage captured parts of the altercation, though investigators are still working to determine how weapons were used.

Authorities said statements had been taken from the injured man and witnesses, and efforts were underway to identify and arrest those responsible.

The incident has renewed concerns over public safety during major festival gatherings in tourist areas, where large crowds and alcohol consumption can heighten tensions.
