HANOI, June 10, 2026 — Prime Minister Hun Manet has emphasized that strong relations between the youth of Cambodia and Vietnam are a crucial foundation for the long-term development of bilateral ties, as both countries prepare to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.

The remarks were made during a meeting on June 9 with Mr. Bui Quang Huy, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, on the sidelines of the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum in Hanoi.

During the meeting, Mr. Bui Quang Huy briefed the Cambodian premier on the outcomes of recent discussions between the youth wing of Cambodia’s ruling Cambodian People’s Party and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. Both sides agreed to organize a series of joint activities and commemorative events, particularly in border provinces, to celebrate six decades of diplomatic relations between the two neighboring countries next year.

Hun Manet welcomed the outcome of the discussions and praised ongoing efforts by youth organizations from both countries to deepen mutual understanding and cooperation. He stressed that people-to-people relations, especially among younger generations, will play an increasingly important role in strengthening Cambodia-Vietnam relations in the years ahead.

The Cambodian leader encouraged youth organizations from Cambodia and Vietnam, as well as within the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam framework, to establish regular mechanisms for engagement and dialogue, ideally on an annual basis. Such exchanges, he said, would help preserve solidarity, friendship and the positive legacy built by previous generations of leaders.

Hun Manet also expressed full support for youth-led initiatives to organize large-scale activities marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027. He noted that both governments have already agreed to coordinate a broad range of commemorative events to ensure the milestone is celebrated in a meaningful and impactful manner.

Both sides agreed that expanding communication, exchanges and mutual understanding at all levels remains essential to preserving and further deepening the traditional friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam.
