Phnom Penh, 4 January 2026 — The Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia has issued a strong statement condemning an incident involving Thai armed forces in Pursat Province, describing it as a serious violation of civilian rights and property.

According to the Ministry, Thai armed personnel forcibly cut locks and unlawfully entered civilian homes in Sangkum Thmei Village, Pursat Province. During the intrusion, valuable civilian property was confiscated from eight households, including four motorcycles and two village garbage carts, which are essential assets for local livelihoods and community services.

The Ministry of Interior underscored that such actions directly impact innocent civilians and undermine ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions, restore normalcy, and rebuild trust along the border areas. The incident raises grave concerns regarding the safety, security, and dignity of Cambodian civilians residing near the border.

The Royal Government of Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights and property of its citizens in accordance with national law and international humanitarian principles. It called upon relevant parties to respect civilian protections, refrain from actions that exacerbate tensions, and adhere strictly to agreed mechanisms aimed at maintaining peace and stability.

Cambodia continues to urge that all border-related issues be addressed through dialogue, restraint, and respect for sovereignty, in the interest of lasting peace and good-neighbourly relations.
