Cambodia deports 729 Myanmar nationals in cybercrime crackdown
PHNOM PENH, Jan. 30, 2026 — Cambodia has deported 729 Myanmar nationals, including 217 women, for illegal residence, illegal employment and travelling without passports, immigration authorities said.
The deportations were carried out between Jan. 23 and Jan. 26 under the direction of Sok Veasna, director-general of immigration, following guidance from the Ministry of Interior. The individuals were returned to Myanmar on special flights.
Authorities said the operation was part of the Cambodian government’s broader effort to dismantle cybercrime networks and enforce immigration laws. Officials said the measures aim to protect public safety and ensure that those involved in technology-based crimes face legal action.
The government said the crackdown also seeks to identify and assist victims who were allegedly deceived or coerced into illegal online activities, allowing them to return home.
Cambodia has stepped up enforcement actions in recent months as part of a regional push to curb transnational cybercrime.
