Cambodia, Lithuania Eye Closer Partnership as PM Hosts Foreign Minister
PHNOM PENH, April 24, 2026 — Cambodia and Lithuania pledged on Friday to deepen bilateral cooperation in areas including trade, energy, digital transformation and education, as Prime Minister Hun Manet hosted Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys during the first official visit by Lithuania’s top diplomat to the Southeast Asian nation.
Budrys said the trip marked an important step in elevating ties and opening a new chapter in relations between the two countries, according to a Cambodian government statement.
Hun Manet welcomed the visit, calling it a catalyst for strengthening diplomatic and economic links and broadening cooperation for the mutual benefit of both peoples.
The two sides discussed expanding collaboration in sectors including commerce and investment, agriculture, agro-processing, tourism, education and vocational training, as well as strengthening private-sector connections.
Energy cooperation featured prominently in the talks. Budrys highlighted Lithuania’s experience in building an independent and modern energy sector, while Cambodia outlined its own transition strategy.
Hun Manet said Cambodia currently generates 62% of its power from clean energy sources and aims to raise that share to 70% by 2030, supported by new policies and investment incentives designed to accelerate sustainable growth.
He said Cambodia and Lithuania had strong potential to develop deeper cooperation in the energy sector.
The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues, stressing the importance of international law, the United Nations Charter, peaceful dispute settlement and refraining from the use of force.
Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia’s support for the UN Charter, the ASEAN Charter and peaceful conflict resolution in accordance with international law, positions the statement said were shared by Lithuania.
The visit comes as Cambodia seeks to diversify diplomatic and economic partnerships with European states while expanding investment and technology cooperation beyond traditional partners.
