Thailand Investigates Public Officials in Citizenship Scam Probe
BANGKOK, April 27, 2026 — Thai authorities are investigating local officials in Nakhon Ratchasima province over allegations of fraud and bribery linked to the issuance of illegal citizenship statuses, officials said on Monday.
The Department of Provincial Administration said it was working with local agencies to examine suspicious documents tied to the case.
Investigators allege bribes ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 baht were accepted in exchange for facilitating unlawful citizenship registrations.
Police, under the direction of Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Police Commander Narong Promta, said the inquiry would be conducted thoroughly and impartially due to the seriousness of the accusations.
Authorities said evidence gathered in the case would be forwarded to Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission because public officials are implicated.
Officials are also searching for a key suspect who has reportedly been missing for more than 20 days and whose testimony may help identify additional individuals involved.
The investigation is currently focused on Pho Klang Subdistrict Municipality, with no similar cases reported elsewhere in the province, authorities said.
