Cambodia Says Khnar Temple Clearly Lies Within Its Territory
PHNOM PENH, 28 June 2026 – Cambodian border officials have reaffirmed that Khnar Temple is unequivocally located within Cambodian territory, citing the official 1:200,000-scale map used in border demarcation.
Ith Sotha, Permanent Secretary of State at the State Secretariat of Border Affairs (SSBA), said in a recent interview on 27 June that Khnar Temple is clearly situated on the Cambodian side of the border according to the recognised map.
He also rejected the validity of any unilaterally drawn maps that contradict the officially recognised boundary, stating that such documents have no legal standing or authorisation.
Ith added that verification of the area confirms that the Thai military’s presence at the site constitutes an illegal occupation under the recognised border framework. He stressed that Cambodia continues to rely on internationally recognised maps and existing bilateral agreements in addressing border issues.
