PATTAYA, April 9, 2026 — Two Indian tourists were robbed of $900 in a currency exchange scam in Pattaya, police said, highlighting ongoing concerns over fraud targeting visitors in busy tourist areas.

The incident occurred late on April 8 outside a currency exchange booth in South Pattaya, where the victims — identified as 35-year-old Vasudev and 34-year-old Mehulkumar — were approached by three men posing as fellow Indian nationals.

According to police, the suspects offered to exchange the tourists’ U.S. dollars, claiming they needed the currency for travel back to India. During the transaction, the suspects created a distraction and fled with the cash.

The victims reported the theft to Pattaya City Police Station shortly after the incident. CCTV footage from the area confirmed the presence of three suspects, who are believed to have escaped the scene.

Authorities said investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and coordinating with local detective units to identify and locate those involved.

The case underscores persistent risks of opportunistic scams in Pattaya, particularly near financial service points frequented by tourists.

Police have urged visitors to use only licensed currency exchange services and avoid informal transactions with strangers, adding that efforts are underway to bring the suspects to justice.
